The Orb

The Orb are an influential English electronic music collective, founded in 1988 by Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty, which pioneered the ambient house genre. Known for their psychedelic, dub-infused soundscapes and extensive use of samples, their music provided the soundtrack for London's chill-out rooms in the late 80s.

Paterson has remained the sole constant member amidst a rotating lineup, collaborating with artists like Thomas Fehlmann, Youth, and David Gilmour. The group achieved commercial success with hit albums like The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld and the UK chart-topping U.F. Orb in the early 90s. They are celebrated for blurring the lines between sampling and original composition, continually pushing the boundaries of electronic music with a unique blend of humor and cosmic ambiance.
