Jesca Hoop's seventh solo album, Long Wave Home, emerged from a period of personal and political upheaval, and explores what people owe each other—in relationships, community, and as witnesses to a turbulent world. It's the first record Hoop has produced entirely herself, marking a new chapter in her long career.

Hoop began writing at the end of 2024 after shedding outside obligations to create space for new work. Progress was slow until 2025, when shifts in her closest relationships gave her, in her words, more tension than she 'knew what to do with.' Producing the album herself was a deliberate step toward the kind of independence she'd long admired in Joni Mitchell, drawing on lessons learned from past collaborators John Parish, Tony Berg, and Blake Mills.

Recording took her across the UK—London, the Isle of Wight, and Bristol—working with arranger Jesse D. Vernon and engineers Tim Thomas and Leo Abrahams to build the album's rich, interwoven sound, heard in the percussion of "Now the Ash" and the instrumental conversation on Adam.

The songs move between intimate and political without much distinction between the two. "Designer Citizen" wryly examines American instability from across the Atlantic; Signal to Noise critiques a media landscape that fragments collective action; and Playground, written in just two days after Hoop watched a press conference by Netanyahu, confronts the toll of violence on children. As she puts it, she doesn't separate love songs from protest songs—to her, they're often the same thing.

The album closes with its title track, a meditation on connection and solidarity that reassures the listener they're not alone—that, like a long wave, they're being carried home.

Nadia Reid

Nadia Reid's fourth studio album Enter Now Brightness (Chrysalis, 2025) was praised by The Guardian, and drew four stars from MOJO and 8/10 from Uncut. A distinctive voice in contemporary songwriting, she has steadily built an international reputation through acclaimed records and compelling live shows, including appearances at Glastonbury and Green Man.
