Join us for a conversation on death and dying in a relaxed and friendly setting, over a tea or coffee and maybe with some cake. Arrive from 5.45pm to start by 6. We'll end at 8pm.
This is a chance to talk together informally about something that affects us all in an open and respectful space. We meet simply as people who are going to die. The objective is to allow a safe environment for people to explore issues surrounding death without an agenda, judgment, or criticism.
Please register if you know you are coming along so we know how much space we need. Places are limited and we don't want anyone to miss out.
The aim of the Death Cafe movement is to increase awareness of death in order to help people make the most of their finite lives. Everyone is welcome.
Death Cafes are not for profit and have no agenda, objectives, advertising or themes - the conversations that happen are entirely dependent on the people who turn up. They are not grief support or counselling sessions.
We ask that you buy some refreshments as the cafe is offering the space for free. You may leave a donation if you choose just to cover the volunteer organiser's time. This is entirely optional.
Feel free to get in touch at HebdenBridgeDeathCafe@gmail.com with any questions. Learn more about the movement at deathcafe.com/about
About the organisers
Bernie Folan
Bernie has participated in many Death Cafes over the years, as both facilitator and attendee. She has experienced the enrichment and transformative power that sharing a safe space to talk about death can bring. Believing passionately that open minds and hearts grow compassion and peace, she is keen to enable Death Cafes to happen in Hebden Bridge.
Laura Green
Laura is a palliative care academic with many years of experience as a macmillan nurse, and believes conversations about death, dying and grief can be transformative, powerful and even joyful.
Nicky King
Nicky is a retired palliative care consultant. She has had to accept her own mortality due to health issues. Due to her experience conversations often encroach on death and dying and she's keen to see everyone being comfortable with such discussions.
Rachel Hawthorn
Rachel is a local end of life doula, supporting dying people and the people around them in Hebden Bridge and the wider local area. She is also an artist and shroud maker, exploring the creative and sustainable possibilities of soft, handmade shrouds as a way to carry and care for our dead.
