✨ This year’s Hepton Singers candlelit winter concert will take you on a musical journey spanning nine centuries of choral brilliance — from the hauntingly beautiful chants of the 12th-century Benedictine abbess and visionary Hildegard of Bingen, to the daringly original sounds of Caroline Shaw, one of today’s most exciting voices in contemporary choral music.
Alongside Shaw, the programme features striking works by Kerry Andrew, Sally Beamish, Ola Gjeilo, and the revered Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, who celebrates his 90th birthday in 2025.
From earlier centuries come the expressive harmonies of Henry Purcell, the radiant polyphony of Giovanni Gabrieli, and the spiritual grandeur of Heinrich Schütz, one of the great masters of the early Baroque.
The Romantic era finds its voice in the glowing motets of Anton Bruckner, music of breathtaking serenity and power. And to crown the programme, the choir will perform one of the most luminous and awe-inspiring choral works of recent times — Stars by Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds, complete with its magical use of tuned glasses.
