Bindweed, a play by Martha Loader
“Thursdays, curry night. Curry and pint for a fiver. Go at five thirty, home by ten. Beat my mum up for a while. Bed by ten thirty.”
Four men convicted of domestic abuse offences meet each week to undergo a perpetrator programme. But as Jen, the new group facilitator, starts to make progress with the men inside the room, life outside begins to buckle.
Bindweed is a shattering and darkly funny play about responsibility and rehabilitation, which looks at what can be done to tackle abuse at its root. Told with honesty and moments of unexpected humour, this special play has been praised for its deeply human storytelling and its ability to sit with difficult truths.
Rise & Howl Collective have gathered a troop of brilliant local actors and under the care of the experienced director, Paul Chewins, and are so excited to be bringing this regional tour directly to Hebden Bridge Little Theatre: Sat 21st March 7:30 pm.
As Kate, our producer explains, "it's a play that gets under your skin. It speaks to experiences that happen every day, often unnoticed. Bringing this story to local venues feels important, especially at a time when connection and reflection really matter.”
