Babak Mirsalari and Ali Abedzadeh grew up in Ahwaz, in southwestern Iran, in the shadow of the Zagros Mountains. They begin the workshop by sharing songs from that home and then invite participants to join in and sing them together.
If there is a song that is meaningful to you, bring it with you to share and teach the chorus to the group. Every tradition and language is welcome. No musical experience necessary. (Also open to those that just want to listen)
Babak Mirsalari is an Iranian composer and sound designer based in Hebden Bridge. His work uses keys, synthesisers, drum machines, field recordings and film aesthetics to tell stories.
His upcoming EP, Leave to Remain is an autobiographical piece drawing on south-western Iranian rhythms, moving through his childhood in Iran, his arrival in the music scene of northern England, and the Yorkshire hills he now lives among.
Ticket price includes tea, coffee and Iranian cakes and biscuits
People from all backgrounds and languages welcome.
