We are delighted to welcome Dr Judith Hudson to Hebden Bridge WI for our August meeting. In line with the WI's 'Thinking Differently: Autistic and ADHD Women and Girls' campaign, we welcome her to discuss the rise in ADHD.
ADHD has been a contentious ‘condition’ since it first arrived on the scene back in the 1980’s. It’s numbers grew vastly in the 1990’s, globally, as did the number of prescriptions of methylphenidate / Ritalin. In 2006-2007 Dr Judith Hudson investigated this growth in Australia and New Zealand. This was followed up in the UK with comparable results, with some variation in medication rates, but on the increase.
Dr Judith Hudson's association with ADHD has continued until the present day. She is now researching for a book on ADHD as a medical or a social construct, and her attention has now fallen on the massive increase in adults being diagnosed.
Dr Hudson's experience is vast; she has worked with neurobiological development conditions as a teacher, psychologist, and advocate for those with dyslexia and SpLD for the past 40 years. She supervises PhD students studying in this field and has authored books and papers on these topics.
This is the monthly meeting of Hebden Bridge Women's Institute. Non-members can attend up to three times for £5 a time before joining. You can find out more about us here: Hebden Bridge WI – More than Jam & Jerusalem
