Join Hebden Royd Town Council for a day of practical environmental conservation volunteering on High Hirst Woodmeadow.
This month's tasks include dock and thistle removal, selective mowing with scythes and drystone walling. Volunteers under the guidance of Hebden Royd Town Council's Local Environment Officer will use hand tools to manage vegetation on site alongside preparing a drystone wall for rebuilding.
Volunteers will receive a site, health and safety briefing and will be provided with the necessary personal protective equipment.
Volunteer numbers are capped to ensure that the work is carried out safely. Volunteering is open to those aged 16+, however those aged 16 and 17 years old will need to be supervised by a responsible adult who is also volunteering on the day.
In the event of inclement weather the activity will be postponed.

About the project
Hebden Royd Town Council set up the High Hirst Woodmeadow project in 2019, as a response to the climate emergency and biodiversity loss. The four acre site provides a unique habitat for a huge variety of flora and fauna - including some extremely rare species. With selective planting and careful management, the site will help to capture and store carbon and reduce the risk of flooding.
The site can be reached via the 595 Bus from Hebden Bridge, the timetable for which can be found below:
https://www.wymetro.com/timetable-pdf?serviceNumber=595
Off street parking is available on Manor Drive, however this is limited and visitors to the site are asked not to park on Sandy Gate.
