On this slow-paced, guided walk in the beautiful landscape of Cornholme near Todmorden, local writer Emma Decent shares poetry and prose inspired by the land she loves. Reflecting on nature, time and being where you are now, this experience connects you to the earth, the season and yourself. The event takes place four times a year, one for every season.
The Circle Turns is an opportunity to engage deeply with the land and the words Emma offers – an inner and outer journey. The route has 15 stops along the way for Emma’s reflective poetry and prose, much of which connects to the landscape. The walking is done mostly in silence to give space to connect with the land, opening the senses, allowing thoughts to subside and reflections to arise. Numbers are limited to support safety and the intimacy of the event. It concludes with hot drink and buns (included) with time to talk and share responses. The event was first developed during lockdown, providing calm, connection to nature and reflection in a challenging year, still relevant now.
Come to more than one to notice the seasonal shifts in yourself and this beautiful spot on the edge of the Pennines near Todmorden.
The route is just under 2 miles along mostly moderate public footpaths. It begins with a gentle, meandering climb on a wide path, with a steep drop on one side and spectacular views. After flattening at the top there is a slightly trickier descent along a narrow pathway. The rest of the walk is gently declining or flat with wonderful views across the valley walking alongside streams and a waterfall. There are 4 stiles, 3 of which are quite tall but very sturdy. Unfortunately it is not suitable for those with serious mobility difficulties or wheelchair users.
Due to it being a largely reflective experience the event is not suitable for children under 14 or dogs, sorry.
The event includes a hot drink and homemade vegan gluten free buns.
