Northern Light Singers plus Sugar Rush

Event added by Music and Word at Wainsgate

Choral music from Edinburgh-based octet Northern Light meets the  4-part close harmony of recently-formed Hebden Bridge group Sugar Rush.

Northern Light Singers are an Edinburgh-based octet performing a wide range of choral repertoire stretching from Tallis to Whitacre, and from more traditional choral music to folk arrangements. Formed in 2024 between a few friends, the basis of the group has always been a shared joy of choral singing. The year has seen them perform independent concerts at venues in Edinburgh, London and Suffolk. They also enjoy performing regularly at Dumb Folks events in Edinburgh.

Sugar Rush is a four-part close-harmony a cappella ensemble based in West Yorkshire. Fiona Earnshaw, Charlie Harrison, Christina Grant and Alison Crutchley met singing in the White Rosettes, an award-winning Leeds barbershop chorus, but their quartet repertoire mixes barbershop with pop, rock, country, songs from stage and screen, and some tunes that defy categorisation… Sugar Rush showcase a selection of arrangements by their bass, Alison Crutchley, who specialises in transforming much-loved 80s and 90s pop into something four voices can sing. With a relaxed and engaging style, the quartet aim to draw audiences in and take them on a journey with each song, and their infectious enthusiasm for the music they love shines through in every number.
