Event added by Heptonstall Museum
We’re delighted to welcome back award-winning poet, Sammy Weaver, for ‘Muses Within Museums’ – a creative writing workshop, funded by Culturedale – Exploring Heptonstall’s heritage and landscape.
Let’s unlock the hidden stories held within them – Everyone and everything has a unique story to tell. How can museums and artefacts be starting points for new poems and stories? In a supportive space, you will learn how to creatively respond in strange and surprising ways.
Through a series of engaging writing exercises, you will explore your own understanding of heritage, place and identity and create a ‘woven sound poem’, weaving our individual voices into a shared tapestry of sound. You will come away with a toolbox of techniques to help you generate new luminous writing beyond the session.
We particularly hope this will inspire attendance from those in our local community who can bring along a small artefact, personal treasure or talisman to inspire new stories and bring them to life in a creative and unique way.
Alternatively, you can work with an object from the museum’s unique collection of locally discovered treasures.
Suitable for adults with all levels of experience.
Please note our museum building is Grade II listed and has limited accessibility for those with disabilities. Please let us know if you have access requirements at the time of booking.
